Darwin Awards III

Darwin Awards III: Survival of the Fittest
© 2003 Wendy Northcutt
304 pages

The Darwin Awards are tongue-in-cheek "honors" given to adults who remove themselves from the gene pool by killing themselves in extraordinarily stupid ways, thus improving it. The home of the Darwin Awards is online, but from time to time awards find their way into collections such as this. I figured I'd check the book out for a few laughs. The stories in this book are not quite as funny as the original, but usually manage to be amusing, even if only mildly so. There are a few that are staggeringly funny, though. If you're interested in the book, I'd first suggest you visit the website and sample a few of the wares first.

  1. I actually talked a friend out of becoming a Darwin Award some years ago. As I was in the car at the time I thought it was a very sensible thing to do!

  2. Seems like a few people in this book took out innocents in their wake. Good job avoiding yours. ;)

Three of us were driving back from somewhere. I was in front with my friend - the advantage of long legs - and his girlfriend was on the back seat. Out of nowhere he proposes that we all strip naked and drive the rest of the way home like that. As this would quite a distraction - especially for the driver - I suggested that it would be a rather bad idea, especially as none of us had, at that point, produced any children.

The whole episode was crying out for a (thankfully potential only) Darwin Award.

Thank you for visiting! Because of some very clever spambots, I've had to start moderating comments more strictly, but they're approved throughout the day.
