You underscore a point I've argued many times: films based on good books are often distortions, and the books are often better renderings.RTDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17113953356514605424noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-980951139270141970.post-67760160475340232182016-02-13T03:04:57.894-06:002016-02-13T03:04:57.894-06:00Haven't seen Gravity, although everyone I know...Haven't seen Gravity, although everyone I know has raved about it. The other classics are all very good. If you like Soylent Green you might want to try the book by Harry Harrison - Make Room, Make Room. From memory it's a bit more hard core than the movie.CyberKittenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06394155516712665665noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-980951139270141970.post-35483173269022720722016-02-12T18:55:24.568-06:002016-02-12T18:55:24.568-06:00I was *ordered* by a SF friend not to watch the mo...I was *ordered* by a SF friend not to watch the movie until I'd read the book, so...guess what I'm watching next? I look forward to meeting HAL. I've heard him in clips, but never experience the full thing.

I bought 2001 as part of a four-movie pack that includes The Time Machine, Forbidden Planet, and Soylent Green. (I also bought Gravity, which aside from putting a bunch of satellites in the same plane that don't actually hang out together, was epic.) [grin] Yes, I've been hooked on SF for that long!

I think the odds are very good (probably certain) that there's life on other worlds. I think that the odds are reasonable that there's intelligent life out there. Whether we ever meet them - that's pretty unlikely I think. Will they be peaceful? Not necessarily...
